Journal :)

Today I was listening to my ipod... which I am slightly addicted to... I was listening for phrases that could be used creatively and I think this one suits well: "Everybody wants to change the world, but no one wants to die." I think that's a pretty awesome observation and a great kick in the pants for creativity!

Sequential Assignment

SO for today we have the assignment of doing a series of connected images! I can't say I'm really very experienced with stuff like this, so it was fun to experiment. I decided to put them together in a sort of comic form, just to bounce ideas around my head. I really enjoyed the first panel, even though the second was my original idea. Although I didn't have enough time for it, I'm planning to do better finishes of the first panel. I think with a bit more development and detail it could turn into a cool piece! As for the second, the little girl is based off of my soon-to-be niece, for whom I am trying to make a nursery mural. I wanted to sort of doodle her down to get her character and mannerism down. So even though I am not planning to finish that one, it served as a pre-study to a character who didn't exist before. I think that's a pretty good process I may try in the future.

Self portrait assignment woooo!!!

Heeey! So for this assignment I have here an "non-traditional" self portrait! This was so much fun. I had to find something that defined me as a person to be my self portrait, or anything kind of like that. I decided on softball, because I am obsessed with it and live it, play it, practice it 12 months of the year..... so yeah. I made the background all different colors... basically colors that stuck out to me or make me feel happy in some sort of way. Anyways without further ado here is the final piece:

Observational Drawing... Assignment!! Whoo!!!

Well it's time for an update!! My assignment was to find a familiar object and draw it in all different ways. My object -which may not really be familiar to everyone else haha- is my handbrace. Well, more accurately my thumb brace, but details details!! ANYWAY. Step one was to Observe the object... my thumb/hand brace... and to draw it in a few different angles. Then on the same piece of paper I was to draw it from memory. Which was not really that easy, and I can't say I didn't cheat a tiny bit (it was only a reflexive glance!!!!).

Now it's time to make the hand brace into a character... I experimented with different ways to sort of evoke an emotion from the hand brace's appearance. Unfortunately, it didn't become sentient for this exercise and the feat was left to my imagination:

and the last step is to show my object interacting with other objects. I saw some other things in my room that looked like it could have relationships to, in some weird way, and went from there:

All right! The end!! :)

Discussion... drawings?

SO... research for drawings that I liked!!! Mostly I just found specific images that I liked so here we go...

This one I love!! It's so weird I really love it. Plus I enjoy the thought of perpetual motion and unending stairs and things like that, so this is super cool. I just imagine drawing yourself over and over again:

Okay... I LOVE Alphonse Mucha!! I don't know if that's weird or not, but he is my favorite artist by far. His attention to detail is amazing, and the graceful and simple way he puts down his lines... just an incredible artist and extremely inspiring. I feel like he must have had a great imagination:

And finally, my obsession with Leonardo da Vinci. I know I'm definitely not the first or the last to say it, but that man was a genius. Not just because he had such great talent, but that he was talented at so many things. His observational work is completely phenomenal. I love his work with horses... which in my opinion, are the most artistically and otherwise incredible animals...:http://www.drawingsofleonardo.org/images/studyofhorseandrider1.jpg

All right, that's all for now!!

Sketchbook... 10 things I hate and love

So here's a little project... 10 things I love, and on the opposite side, 10 things I hate. I decided to make them related to each other, almost echoing the last project a little bit. So, like #1 in the "love" column is an animal I like, horses, so #1 in the "hate" column is an animal I hate, which would be little, yippee dogs. Etc.

Sketch Book Assignment

Hello all! For this assignment I had to use my sketch book! On the left page, I had to put down whatever came to mind and on the right its opposite. It could be whatever so it was pretty fun! Some of them are better than others but... it was good for experimentation!

White vs. Black

Happiness vs. sadness

Opened vs. Closed

Dogs (which are better!) vs. cats

An old man outside his home vs. a baby in his crib

Portfolio discussion

Hey first post! Here are a few pieces that I think I may include with my portfolio. What I like in my drawings is that I seem to have pretty good spacial awareness. The lines are usually really clear, and overall the pictures have a sort of elegant quality to them. I do want to work on line symmetry (as in the mirror in the first picture... the top of it is not symmetric). Thoughts?
